![]() Shovels plunged into the sandy soil behind Harwich High School yesterday, as students, officials in education and government, and a fuzzy shark mascot broke ground for the long-awaited Monomoy Regional High School. The $60 million facility will house classrooms for 700 students from both Harwich and Chatham and is expected to take 18 months to complete.
State Treasurer Steve Grossman, chairman of the Massachusetts School Building Authority says the Commonwealth will pay nearly one half of the total tab for the project--approximately $29.1 million. If the weather cooperates, look for the foundation of the new building to be poured as early as next month, and the first graduates to receive their newly minted Monomoy High School diplomas in June, 2015.
