Homes in Western U.S. are Most Expensive, Southern Homes are Least

The price of single-family homes in the western states outpaces those of the rest of the country, according to data from the National Association of Realtors.  
 
In a report titled "Existing Home Sales Lose Momentum in April", the NAR reveals only homes in the midwest showed a sales increase in April.  Sales of homes in the northeast, the south and west all declined last month.

• The median price of an existing home in the Northeast was $253,200 in April, which is 3.6 percent higher than April 2014.
  
• The median price in the Midwest was $173,700, up 11.4 percent from a year ago.
  
• The median price in the South was $189,400, up 8.5 percent from a year ago.
  
• The median price in the West was $318,700, which is 10.0 percent above April 2014, according to the NAR.
