An East Falmouth home will be featured on HGTV's "House Hunters" on Thursday. The program features a couple choosing one of three homes for sale, which makes for some compelling TV . House Hunters is one of the backbones of HGTV's prime-time lineup. The home at 33 Green Pond Road is on the market for $699,000. It includes 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3,235 square feet. It also has a marsh view with the best that nature has to offer. Call me if you'd like me to take you through. HGTV came under fire last year for what some say is a misleading premise. Viewers are lead to believe three houses are on the market and the buyers are under some pressure to make a decision and a purchase offer in a short period of time.
Three months later, camera crews return to see the couple all settled in. As a fan of the program I could never figure out how some busy families managed to install a new kitchen and make significant changes to the property in just three month's time. It would take me that long just to identify what's in all the boxes in the living room. Last year a popular blog picked up on an obscure quote in an old newspaper article and it sent shock waves through the HGTV fan base. In an article titled "The Truth about House Hunters on HGTV", website Hookedonhouses.net revealed that HGTV finds a couple who have just purchased a home and then takes them through the exercise of touring two other properties for sale to give the impression they are actually considering all three. Spoiler alert: Based on the article in today's Cape Cod Times online, it would appear Thursday's couple will not choose the East Falmouth home, because homeowner Bill Gwatkin is quoted as saying he has watched the seasons from his home for "10 years". So he is clearly not the new HGTV owner. But then again, who knows what is real and what is fake on House Hunters? A lot of facts don't add up, but I plan to tune in anyway.
