Better Kitchen Tops Wish List for Transferees

Larger homes with better kitchens are what transferees want most in a new home, according to the Cartus Global Relocation Corporation.

Cartus polled 267 real estate brokers in the Cartus Broker network about what their inbound homebuyers want in their new place.  Their response?

• Upgraded kitchen 91%
• First-floor master bedroom 60%
• Finished basement 44%
• Pool/spa 23%
• Outdoor kitchen 11%
• Smart-home technology 10%
• Media room/home theater 7%
• Fitness room 4%

On Cape Cod, where the second home market comprises approximately 50% of the housing stock, and where the outdoor lifestyle reins, requests for fitness rooms are rare but outdoor showers are high on the wish list.

As for the home itself, Cartus brokers say clients request:

• Larger home than before 70%
• New construction 64%
• Single-story living 37%
• Multi-story living 26%
• Smaller home than before 17%

Homeowners who are still employed but transferring, report a preference for homes in quality school districts and with short commutes.  

On Cape Cod, as more and more baby boomers set their sites on retiring, smaller and older homes are a large part of the charm.
